Practice management sessions have been an enlightening learning journey for me.

It has covered most of the tools needed to track your business outside the normal financial statements ratios. The course is rich in tried and tested approaches which are easy to understand and implement yet they unlock more value for the business. The presenter, Mark, has rich understanding of business process and has imparted a lot of wisdom regarding processes and how to improve them. Overall, Mark has given us tools to implement in our businesses that unlock at least 20% more value.

I attended the course and took away the following:

-    Take ownership of your practice.
-    Understand that it took you long time to study and qualify, so value yourself to charge out at the correct rates.
-    Bottom up approach in the company no new ideas / changes
-    Deal with clients with respect, stand firm on your price without being aggressive.
-    Deal with your lock up clients, that in over 90 days do not respect you.
-    Turnover is not your real turnover.
-    Mark taught us a lot and worked really well to include the delegates in the workshop

...reinforcing that our approach is correct while highlighting areas for improvement. It emphasised valuing ourselves, our time, and the importance of client visibility. We also learned the significance of having the right team and prioritising ongoing training.

I found the workshop useful in particular some words and terms used.

For example “hire the best” and “listen more” and “ staff don’t like working on non-profitable tasks”. Very important tips included, don’t discount your work, and don’t minimize the problem.

This has been confirmation that I am a professional...

...and that I am charging professional fees for professional services. The work that I do enables them to make money.

Attending this workshop has broadened my perspective...

...with regards to all the components that either make or break an accounting firm. The importance of establishing and following processes and setting string guidelines to govern efficiency and ethics in the workplace.

Mark, you broke the myth about finishing work before you can bill the client.

Now I am going to start sending interim invoices for those WIP and discuss debit orders for the clients in the 90 days category. I also learnt a lot about how to build the price for my jobs by budgeting appropriately. Timeliness on my report card. I need to really work on that and improve timeliness of communication and job completion.

I learnt that the services that our company provide can be quantified better...

...leading to invoicing higher amounts and reaching significantly more and better-quality output. Services such as AFS and their layout will be improved, showing more value to the customer base.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 days with Mark.

There are so many practices that I am eager to implement within our firm. The thought that the prices are too high is actually that the client does not feel that they are receiving value for the price, this has really stood out for me! I would strongly recommend the course.
